What to do when you deviate from the narrow path of kerosene stoves. (2)
So, another enthusiast-run museum, the Ålleberg Sailplane Museum.
This museum is situated on top of the mountain Ålleberg, on the other side of the town. (A plateau mountain, just like Mösseberg.)
Around 1941 a Civilian Glider School was established on top o the mountain, a very suitable place, considering the flat and open top and steep sides. Since then Ålleberg have been kind of a centre for Swedish sailplane training and meets and this is where the hobby have its roots in Sweden. Some of the original wooden barracks and hangars are still there. The “Ålleberg Segelflygmuseum” have some 20 gliders, mainly from 1940-1960, and associated equipment such as winches and instruments. This is the only museum of its kind in Sweden and possibly in northern Europe.
Their web-site is all in Swedish, but again the pictures speak for themselves.

During the Primus Meet 2010 the museum will be open all days between 11 and 17. There will also be the Nordic Veteran Sailplane Meet at the same time, so it’s fair to assume that there will be a lot of activities at the mountain Ålleberg as well as on Mösserg. Imagine veteran gliders being towed by the airfields Tiger Moth!
There is a 10 minutes drive from Mösseberg to Ålleberg, and while you are there enjoy a cup of coffee at the café (and the view)!
